This past Sunday, Safe House Animal Rescue League held a mega adoption event (sponsored by Best Friends Animal Society) promoting the adoption of black pets. Our black furry friends tend to get the short end of the proverbial stick when it comes to finding their forever homes. They’re most often the hardest to adopt out…simply because of the color of their coat. Black pets generally don’t photograph as well, and in this day and age our first impression of an animal we’re looking to adopt, is more often than not, online. And then there are superstitions with negative connotations associated with black animals that just aren’t true.
We all love an animal with a beautiful or distinctly colored coat, but our hope is that more and more of these equally wonderful black pets could find loving homes, and spend less time in shelters.
We are fortunate that the event was a great success. 7 dogs, and 5 cats from Safe House went home with their new families that day, and we are all so very grateful to everyone who came out to support us, and for each and every volunteer that made the event the success that it was!
Here is a slideshow of photos from the event, as well as some of the adopters and our volunteers getting silly at the photo booth!
